Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati
Last night I attended Christine's IVCF Halloween party. There were some very original entries in the pumpkin carving contest, including an elephant (with someone's arm as the trunk), a neat tableau featuring a cat sitting under a tree with a moon above, and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders symbol. There were also some more standard pumpkins, including the Cheshire Cat done by my group (Christine and Thu, a student from Vietnam for whom this was her first pumpkin carving experience), several crosses (okay, so not exactly standard, but not unexpected at a Christian event), and miscellaneous other scary visages.
After this, all* the costumed people in attendance walked, strolled or meandered down the "cat walk", strutting their stuff and showing off their costumes. We were judged for the best "cat walk" (won by "Cleopatra" doing a "Walk Like an Egyptian" performance), and then people nominated the five best costumes. Those selected then got up, were asked to say a few words in character, and then asked a few questions (including "what would be your perfect date?"#), before the winner was decided by most applause from the audience.
My costume was a big hit: I won the costume contest, in large part due to my portrayal of the role:
As you can see, Red gets a little manic about duct tape:
I'm not sure it's a good thing that I can pull off a convincing Red Green.
It is a good thing I had the handyman's secret weapon around because there were a few costume failures (not to be confused with "wardrobe malfunctions") that had to be repaired with it.
Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.
*: except the spoilsport Christine.
#: my answer was, "Me, Bernice and the 'Possum van. Need I say more?"
Here are a few pictures from the party:
Christine in her nurse costume...with a gun she borrowed from someone
Red Green, the nurse and a less reputable character
My pumpkin design, the Cheshire Cat...not the most original, I'll admit, but it was fun.
A very original pumpkin design:
These parties can get violent!
Matty B and friends
One last shot of me as Red Green
And the obligatory group photo!

Heh, when I saw the picture, I thought: "So Christine is in costume as... a sweet Christian girl? This is a costume?" But the * explained that. :D
I see you made a pretty convincing Red Green, but the question is: did you manage the gravelly voice?
To be fair, Christine, did wear a costume, but she wasn't in it at the point those pictures were taken. If I manage to get pictures from the event, you'll likely see her in costume then...as something other than a "sweet christian girl".
That is brilliant, Matt. Well played.
Thanks Bronwyn!
Wow. That was one impressive Red Green. I think that was an even more stunning resemblance than the time I went for Halloween as Jan Brady.
The person dressed up as one of the musketeers had a cool costume.
