Funny Cat Moments: Mirri

Mirri is a bit of an odd cat, as compared to Alice. Mirri always wants attention; Alice wants attention strictly on her own terms. Mirri will follow Christine or I (or visitors) from room to room; Alice pretty much does her own thing. In some ways, Mirri really behaves more like a dog than a cat.

One of Mirri's quirks (not exactly dog-like) is a preference for jumping up on people's shoulders and riding around up there.

To better understand this next bit, I will try to re-create the layout of our bathroom.

The image above is not to scale, but I'm sure you get the idea. Anyway, Mirri has a habit of jumping up on the shoulders of anyone standing at the sink. She perches on the edge of the tub, and then takes a flying leap, ending up on the back or shoulders of the individual in question. Not the most endearing of habits, especially if you don't happen to be wearing a shirt when this happens.

This morning I saw Mirri sitting on the edge of the tub, wiggling her rump as she prepared to jump on my shoulders...while I was in the shower. We have a free-standing shower with clear plastic doors, so you can see that wouldn't be the best idea. She didn't quite build up the courage (or some common sense took over), and she settled back down, so I thought that was done with. Then all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I saw the spread-eagled form of the cat hit the doors about 4/5ths of the way to the top, and drop to the floor. The silly thing had tried to jump through the doors onto my shoulders!

Fortunately, she was all right (brain damage requires one to possess a brain), and hopefully she has learned her lesson!

In other news: my employment situation (or lack thereof) remains unchanged. I have received the conditional offer from INAC, I submitted my security clearance, Christine and I have submitted our health clearance forms, and now we wait for those to be processed before receiving the official job offer. Hurry up and wait.
